About
Wes Spears was born in Texas, raised in Tennessee, and currently attends Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Wes was raised in the evangelical Baptist tradition and even experienced a foray into Reformed theology. Since then, he has abandoned both understandings of Christianity, and while he remains a Baptist, he fosters a more Mainline understanding of the Christian religion. Hence, for now, he remains a Reluctant Baptist (which became the title of this blog when “Theophilusian Fragments” was dubbed too pretentious for its own good). Before leaving for college, Wes felt the call to full time ministry. As a result, he enrolled at Samford University in the Preministerial Scholars program. After his undergraduate years, he plans to attend seminary and obtain more advanced degrees while serving in the Church as a clergyman. Currently, Wes regards himself as a student learning about the things about which he writes, so he does not presume to have teaching or instructional authority in any of the writings here.
For biblical study, Wes prefers the New Revised Standard Version. And for other reading, the Revised English Bible or N.T. Wright’s Kingdom New Testament / The New Testament for Everyone.
